We’re a lucky bunch in Newcastle at the moment. New restaurants are popping up all over the city, serving up cuisine from what seems like every corner of the globe.
The newest addition to mentally bookmark in your head is Cabana, a Brasilian barbecue restaurant that launched back in 2011 by renowned restaurateurs Jamie Barber (Hush, Villandry, Sake No Hana) and Brasilian-born David Ponté (Momo).
Following a £1 million investment, the new restaurant will be opening in the Cooperative Building in Newcastle city centre (next door to The Gate) creating 40 new jobs into the bargain.
Newcastle marks the chain’s third – and most northerly – venture outside of London and, according to the Brasilian aficionados, Newcastle’s famous nightlife, as well as the city’s passion for fashion, celebrity and sport all create a fantastic atmosphere which is the “perfect fit for Cabana’s fun and energetic brand”.
The new 4500 square ft. restaurant will serve Cabana’s best-selling, ‘killer’ Spicy Malagueta Chicken and Sweet Potato Fries, along with Brasilian street food and grilled barbecue skewers. If the Cabana Instagram page is anything to go by, then we’re going to be in for a treat!
It’s not all about the food though – inside, there will be a dedicated cocktail bar, too, promising authentic Brasilian cocktails. We particularly like the sound of the tropical fruit flavoured Caipirinhas and Brazil’s answer to the Frozen Margarita – the UK’s first Frozen Caipirinhas.
Jamie Barber, co-founder of Cabana, says: “After the success of both Manchester and Leeds in the North, we can’t wait to showcase Cabana to Newcastle, and we hope it will become one of the city’s go-to destinations.
“Brasilian Food has also been dubbed the cuisine of 2016, so we are really excited about the opening in Newcastle to show off our signature Spicy Malagueta Chicken, famous cocktails and energetic Brasilian atmosphere.”
