Cabana is a new 4200 sq ft restaurant located in the revamped Cooperative Building in Newcastle city centre.
Following the recent opening of Caribbean restaurant Turtle Bay next door, and of course with Chinatown just a stone’s throw away, this corner of the city is becoming something of a destination for foodies in search of global cuisine.
Awash with an extravagant mix of bright colours, graffiti style decor and upholstery made from pairs of jeans (yes, really) Cabana catapults diners into the feel-good world of all things Brasilian.
Boasting 150 covers, the restaurant also has a dedicated caipirinha bar. In case you didn’t know, the caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail made with cachaça, sugar and lime. It’s refreshing but strong – you have been warned!
Cabana’s launch event was a vibrant affair complete with carnival-esque music, tasters from the menu (the spicy Malagueta chicken was a highlight) and plenty of cocktails in full flow. Former Newcastle United player Mirandinha, who hails from Brazil, even flew in specially to attend the launch.
With the Rio Olympic Games a matter of weeks away, we think this might be the place to go to soak up those authentic Brasilian party vibes!
