Dry lips are something of a mainstay during the winter months, with the tumbling temperatures and chilly winds zapping away moisture. It’s a recurring problem I’ve had to contend with for years.
Not only are dry flaky lips uncomfortable but they’re unsightly too, and it’s almost impossible to wear a lippy or anything with a pop of colour that will draw unwanted attention to my mouth. It might sound like a trivial issue but if I’m having a bad lip day, it makes me really self-conscious about smiling or even talking, especially when I’m in meetings with colleagues. Sound familiar?
I think I’ve tried almost every balm from every ‘leading’ brand at one point or another. Nothing has really solved my hydration woes and transformed my mouth into a kissably soft pout. But then I discovered Bobbi Brown’s Lip Balm with SPF 15 which, for me, was a game changer…
What they say…
Avocado, olive and wheat germ oils help create a protective layer, with petrolatum rehydrating the lips and providing immediate comfort. Beeswax hydrates the lips, with soothing action from aloe vera.
I love pretty packaging and the Bobbi Brown Lip Balm comes in a cute silver pot, the perfect little addition to my make-up bag on the go.
The texture is spot on – it’s neither oily or cakey (there’s nothing worse than applying a gloopy balm to tackle your flaky lips for it to then accentuate the problem even further!). And immediately after smoothing on a thin layer of the balm, it delivers instant relief and hydration.
Typically, I apply it before leaving for work in the morning and top it up throughout the day to keep my lips super soft. I’ve also started to incorporate it within my bedtime beauty regime, after cleansing and moisturising my face. But I only tend to do this every now and again for an extra boost of hydration, as I don’t want my lips to rely too much on its pout-perfecting properties!
I also discovered that the balm works perfectly as a base, if I do ever pluck up the courage to wear a bright lipstick over the top. Something I’m more likely to dabble with at the weekend when I’m not racing against the clock to get ready!
It’s not the cheapest of lip balms, priced at £17, but this little pot is a dream come true for me and my eternally dry lips. I could spend £££s trying out different balms and creams, or splurge on one ‘wonder’ product that works and is better value in the long run.
I’d love to know which lip balms you swear by in the winter months – share yours in the comments below!
